The Opening Tip
- Pitt (8-14, 0-9) opens a three-game road swing at Miami (15-5, 4-4) Wednesday, Jan. 31 at the Watsco Center. The game will be broadcast on the Regional Sports Network (AT&T SportsNet in Pittsburgh) and is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m.
- The Panthers have used 15 different starting lineups this season, the most in the NCAA. Freshmen have combined to make 67 starts on the year.
- Pitt has dropped nine consecutive games, tied for the third longest streak in program history. The Panthers have lost 10 consecutive games twice (Dec. 7, 1968 - Jan. 22, 1969 and Feb. 5, 1993 - March 10, 1993) in program history.
- Pitt dropped a hard-fought battle to Syracuse, 60-55, Saturday at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers shot a season-low 27.7 percent (18-of-65) from the field in the contest.
- Pitt started the game 6-of-9 (.667) from the field and led by eight [14-6] with 13:39 remaining in the first half before going through a scoring drought. The Panthers trailed 22-20 at the half following a buzzer-beating three-point field goal by Marcus Carr.
- Jared Wilson-Frame recorded his first career double-double with 18 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. He also added a season-best three steals in the loss.
- Marcus Carr also delivered a double-double with 16 points and 12 assists. He scored or assisted on 16 of Pitt's 18 made field goals in the game.
- Terrell Brown had a season-high six blocks to go along with six rebounds in the contest.
- Pitt has started three or more freshmen in a game 14 times, including each of the past 12 contests. Freshmen have combined to make 67 starts as Marcus Carr (19), Khameron Davis (14), Shamiel Stevenson (11), Parker Stewart (11), Terrell Brown (10) and Peace Ilegomah (2) have each made starts this season.
- Pitt has dropped 13 consecutive ACC regular season contests. The Panthers last regular season conference win was an 80-66 decision over No. 17 Florida State Feb. 18, 2017.
- The Panthers have lost seven consecutive ACC road contests. Pitt's last conference road win was an 83-72 decision at Boston College Feb. 8, 2017.
- Marcus Carr scored or assisted on 16 of the Panthers 18 made field goals against Syracuse. He either scored or recorded an assist on 47 of the team's 55 points scored in the game. Carr finished the game with 16 points and a season-high 12 assists.
- Jared Wilson-Frame leads the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game and shares the team lead in three-point field goals with 42. He has scored in double figures 15 times and made three or more three-point field goals in a game seven times. Wilson-Frame is averaging 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over the past two contests.
- Parker Stewart has scored in double figures in six of nine ACC contests and is averaging 10.8 points per game in league play. He ranks seventh in the ACC in three-point percentage (.418) and tied for sevenh in three-point field goals (2.56 3pg.) in conference play.
- Marcus Carr leads Pitt in minutes played (640), starts (19), free throw percentage (.864), assists (91) and steals (16). He has scored in double figures 11 times and ranks ninth among ACC freshmen in scoring at 10.4 points per game.
- Jared Wilson-Frame had a string of 23 consecutive made free throws snapped against Syracuse. He ranks second in conference-play in free throw percentage (.958 - 23-of-24).
- Parker Stewart is 39-of-98 (.398) from beyond the three-point arc and has made two or more threes in 11 of the past 17 contests. Stewart ranks second among ACC freshmen with 42 three-point field goals on the season.
- Terrell Brown leads the Panthers with 28 blocked shots and is tied for eighth in the ACC with 2.11 blocks per game in conference play. Steven Adams (2013) was the last Pitt freshman to lead the team in blocks.
- Shamiel Stevenson came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field in the first meeting between the two teams. Stevenson leads the team in field goal percentage (.515) and has scored in double figures nine times on the season.
- Pitt's freshman class has accounted for 66.2 percent (372-of-562) of the team's scoring over the past 10 games. The group has 15 of Pitt's 21 double-figure scoring games in that span.
- The Panthers are shooting 47.5 percent (197-of-415) from the field, 37.1 percent (75-of-202) from three-point range and 72.1 percent (119-of-165) from the foul line in their eight wins. In contrast, Pitt has shot just 38.6 percent (278-of-720) from the field, 29.5 percent (95-of-322) from three-point range and 69.5 percent (169-of-243) from the foul line in its losses.
- Pitt has limited its past two opponents to 34.4 percent (43-of-125) shooting from the field, including 24.0 percent (12-of-50) from beyond the three-point arc.
- The Panthers current nine-game losing streak is the second longest in conference play in program history. Pitt dropped 13 consecutive Big East games from Feb. 8, 1993 - Jan. 18, 1994.
