Panthers Hit the Road as ACC Slate Nears an End
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team concluded its weekend at home, falling to Clemson, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Pitt (4-9-1, 0-7-0 ACC) donned retro kits as the Panthers joined with men's soccer, women's volleyball and football in Pitt's Retro Weekend.
"The retro uniforms look fantastic," said head coach Randy Waldrum. "Unfortunately, we didn't perform the way we looked. I wish we would've played up to par; I think all of our other teams won in the retros this weekend, so it's disappointing that we couldn't carry our end on it. But it's a great look, I thought they looked awesome in the new kits."
Clemson (9-5-0, 4-2-0 ACC) started the scoring midway through the first half, netting a goal off a throw in in the 28th minute. The Tigers would take the 1-0 lead into the break.
The Tigers extended their lead in the 72nd minute, converting a corner kick to take a 2-0 lead they wouldn't surrender.
Defensively, goalkeeper Amaia Pena registered 10 saves, making a slew of key defensive plays to keep the Panthers in the game.
The Panthers will head south to face No. 8 Virginia Sunday at 2 p.m. Pitt returns home Thursday, Oct. 18, hosting No. 10 Florida State at 7 p.m. Pitt's final home game of the season will take place on Oct. 21 against Notre Dame as the Panthers celebrate Senior Day.
