Pitt aims for their fifth straight win as Mountaineers come to town
PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's basketball (6-4, 0-0 ACC) will be looking for their fifth straight victory on Saturday afternoon as they welcome the West Virginia Mountaineers to the Petersen Events Center for the Backyard Brawl. Saturday's game will begin at 3:00 pm and it will mark the 46th meeting between the two teams.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers (6-4, 0-0 ACC) earned their fourth straight win as they took down the Fordham Rams in front of the home fans at the Petersen Events Center by the score of 65-62.
- Pitt had three players score in double figures on Wednesday night as Jasmine Whitney led the way with a season-high 18 points on 6-for-9 from the floor.
- Senior Danielle Garven had a strong game down low for the Panthers as she was able to net 16 points and five rebounds while going an efficient 8-for-13 from the floor.
- Off the bench, Kauai Bradley put together her second straight outstanding effort as she netted a season-high 13 points, five rebounds and two steals while draining three triples in the win.
- As a team, Pitt shot 48.1% from the floor while holding the Rams to 41.0%. The Panthers also won the battle of the paint, 28-20, in the win.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- The West Virginia Mountaineers come to Pittsburgh with a 4-2 overall record on the season after falling to Missouri, 68-51, last time out.
- The Mountaineers have four players averaging double figures in points on the year as Tynice Martin leads the way averaging 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.8 steals while connecting on 45.5% of her shots from behind the arc.
- Kysre Gondrezick has started each of the last three games for WVU and she is averaging 13.8 points, 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals so far this season. Naomi Davenport ranks third on the team in scoring as she is averaging 13.7 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds.
- As a team, the Mountaineers are averaging 80.0 points/game while allowing just 54.3 points/game on the year. WVU is shooting 44.0% from the floor while their defense is holding opponents to just 34.3% shooting on the year.
- Head coach Mike Carey has roamed the sidelines for the Mountaineers for 18 seasons and he has accumulated 375 career coaching victories.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt will stay at home for their next two games as they welcome UNCW to town on Dec. 18 before closing out their four-game homestand with a non-conference battle with St. Francis (PA) on Dec. 21.
- After the holiday break, the Panthers will close out their non-conference slate with a road matchup against cross-town rival Duquesne on Dec. 29 at 2:00 pm.
- ACC will begin for the Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 3 as they head to South Bend, IN to take on the defending national champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 7:00 pm.
