PAW PRINTS
- One to watch: redshirt junior Yacine Diop is eight points away from reaching 1,000 for her career.
- The Panthers list the No. 2 field goal percentage defense in the ACC, limiting opponents to 36.1 percent success from the field. Duke leads the league at 35.6 percent.
- Junior center Kalista Walters continues to lead the ACC field goal percentage rankings (.659). As the NCAA ranks only student-athletes who average five made field goals per game, Walters averages 4.7.
- The Panthers are fourth in the country in total blocked shots (156), behind the nation's leader, William & Mary (189). Pitt leads the ACC in blocked shots per game (6.5), ranking eighth in the country.
A WIN WOULD…
- Be the Panthers' first in Chestnut Hill, Mass., since Jan. 3, 1994 (82-63). Pitt is looking to snap a 10-game losing streak when playing at Conte Forum.
- Be Pitt's second consecutive against the Eagles. Last season, the Panthers topped BC, 56-43, at Petersen Events Center.
- Be Pitt's second consecutive road victory, marking its longest streak since winning four straight away from Pittsburgh from Jan. 24 to Feb. 18, 2016.
LAST TIME OUT
- Four starters reached double-figure scoring for Pitt in a 66-59 loss to No. 10/11 Florida State Sunday in front of a crowd of 1,765 at Petersen Events Center.
- Sophomore guard Alayna Gribble paced the Panthers with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, 3-of-5 from long range and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Junior Kauai Bradley and redshirt junior Yacine Diop had 12 points apiece, while Diop had a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore point guard Jasmine Whitney had 11 points and dished out a game-high five assists.
- The game featured 14 lead changes and six ties. The Panthers held the lead at the end of the first, second and third quarters, but were unable to hold on in the fourth as the Seminoles used a 12-3 run from 4:27 to 00:29 to acquire their first double-figure margin of the game (62-52). Freshman Kyla Nelson heaved up a long three with two seconds remaining to make the final score 66-59.
MILESTONE WATCH
- Three Panthers are nearing statistical milestones:
- Redshirt junior Yacine Diop is eight points away from reaching 1,000 for her career. She is on pace to become the 19th 1,000-point scorer in school history and the first to reach the milestone since Brianna Kiesel did as a junior in 2013-14.
- Point guard Jasmine Whitney has made the fifth-most assists made by a sophomore in school history with 114. The Centreville, Va., native needs four more to move into sole possession of fourth place, to pass Aysia Bugg's 117 in 2015-16.
- Junior center Kalista Walters is one steal away from reaching 100 for her career.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Boston College (6-18, 1-10 ACC) is looking to snap an eight-game losing streak when the Panthers visit Sunday. The Eagles' lone conference win came against North Carolina, 77-64, Jan. 5 at Conte Forum. Last time out, BC dropped a 67-43 decision at Georgia Tech Thursday in Atlanta.
- The Eagles are led in scoring by two-time ACC Rookie of the Week Milan Bolden-Morris. The forward averages 13.0 points per game and is third in the ACC with 2.8 3-pointers made per game.
- BC lists two other double-figure scorers in sophomores Taylor Ortlepp (11.2 ppg) and Georgia Pineau (11.0).
- Pitt picked up the win in last year's meeting, 56-43, at Petersen Events Center (Jan. 5, 2017). The Panthers have not won in the last ten tries at Conte Forum, since an 82-63 win Jan. 3, 1994.
UP NEXT
- The Panthers will complete their two-game road swing at Miami Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. at Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
