
No. 8 Panthers Set For Home Showdown With No. 5 Marshall Tuesday Night

PITTSBURGH – The No. 8 Pitt men's soccer team (1-1-1, 0-0-0 ACC) is set for a top-10 home matchup against No. 5 Marshall on Tuesday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Tuesday's match will kick at 6:00 pm and air live on ACC Network with Dalen Cuff and Devon Kerr on the call.

THE SERIES – MARSHALL
- This meeting marks the sixth between the two programs all-time with the Panthers holding the 2-1-2 advantage in the series.
- Marshall won the last meeting in the series last season at home by the score of 2-1. They used two first half goals to down the Panthers.
- Prior to the win last year, Pitt was 2-0-2 against the Herd in the previous four matchups.
- Pitt is 1-0-2 all-time at home against Marshall.
- The last meeting between the two teams in Pittsburgh came in 2004, a 3-3 tie.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD
- The Marshall Thundering Herd enter Tuesday's match in Pittsburgh with a perfect 3-0-0 record while outscoring opponents 12-0 so far this season.
- The Herd were ranked No. 5 in the nation in the week one United Soccer Coaches Poll.
- Last time out, Marshall collected a 3-0 home victory over Xavier as they had three different goal scorers in the win.
- So far this season, Marshall is led offensively by Matthew Bell who has scored four goals on 15 shots. Alvaro Garcia-Pascual is second on the squad with two goals, three assists and seven points on a team-high 23 shots.
- In goal, Gabriel Perrotta has been perfect for the Herd as he owns a 3-0-0 record while making four saves and not allowing a goal.
NEWCOMERS CONTINUE TO IMPRESS
- The newcomers for the Panthers have made a strong impression through the first three matches of the 2023 season.
- Last time out at Georgetown, Pitt had four first year members in the starting lineup (Grau, Cilli, Toure, Thorsen) while a total of 10 appeared in the match against the Hoyas.
- Transfer Luka Kozomara came off the bench in the second half and netted the lone goal for Pitt. It marked his second straight match with a goal
- In the 5-0 home win over Howard, newcomers accounted for four of the five Pitt goals (Thorsen, Grau, Zahir Dyke, Kozomara). Massimo Murania and Felipe Mercado also notched their first assists as Panthers in the win.
HOME TURF ADVANTAGE
- The Panthers have been one of the best teams in the country on their home turf over the past four seasons as they own a 33-4-6 record at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- Pitt held a 19-match home winning streak from Oct. 7, 2019 to Nov. 10, 2021, which at the time was the longest streak in the ACC and second longest unbeaten streak in the nation.
- Head coach Jay Vidovich is 37-17-8 at home in his eight seasons at Pitt.
- Since the start of the 2019 season, Pitt has outscored its opponents 114-41 at home including a 24-12 advantage last season.
- Dating back to last season, Pitt is unbeaten at home in their last eight matches (5-0-4).
- The Panthers win percentage (.837) at home since 2019 is the best in the ACC and 6th best overall in the NCAA.
