
Panthers Fall to No. 13 Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – The Pitt women's basketball team fell to No. 13 Georgia Tech, 100-61, Sunday evening at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, Ga.
With the result, Pitt fell to 8-7 and 0-2 in ACC play, while the 13th-ranked Yellow Jackets improved to 14-0 and 2-0 in league action.
The Panthers were led by graduate center Khadija Faye, as she logged 22 points and six rebounds for her seventh game scoring 20+ this season. Senior guard Brooklynn Miles also had a solid performance, registering 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. Junior guard Aislin Malcolm joined Faye and Miles scoring in double figures with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
As a team, the Panthers went a perfect 13-of-13 from the charity stripe but were unable to overcome 21 turnovers. The Yellow Jackets shot 50.7 percent from the field en route to the season-high 100 points.
How It Happened
Georgia Tech started the contest on a 7-0 run, before a Miles triple opened the scoring for Pitt. After a Yellow Jacket layup, the Panthers scored five unanswered to pull within one at 9-8. Georgia Tech outscored Pitt, 10-4, over the ensuing 90 seconds of play to regain its seven-point advantage. The two sides exchanged field goals for the following five minutes, but Georgia Tech scored five unanswered to close the period and held a 31-18 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
Faye opened the second quarter with a steal and a breakaway layup, but the Yellow Jackets responded with a 15-4 run over the ensuing four minutes to take a 21-point lead at the midway point of the second frame. The Panthers were unable to cut into the deficit and trailed, 53-28, at the halftime break. Of note, Pitt tallied seven assists on 11 made baskets in the first half.
Pitt and Georgia Tech exchanged baskets for the first six minutes of the third period, but the Yellow Jackets closed the quarter on an 18-4 run to take an 85-47 lead into the fourth quarter. The Panthers were unable to cut the deficit in the final period and eventually fell, 100-61.
