
Men’s 4x100 Sets School Record, Alesia Rengle Wins High Jump at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Pitt Panthers traveled south for the Florida Relays. Their trip was highlighted by the men's 4x100 team's school record and fifth place finish at the meet, along with Alesia Rengle's second consecutive victory in the high jump. There were numerous personal records and top ten program times as well.

Norrah Lemongo continued to produce personal bests. To begin the meet, Lemongo recorded a 54.68-meter toss in the hammer throw to go from #8 to #6 on Pitt's top 10 list.
On the track, the men's 4x100 relay team set a new program record in the event for the third consecutive season. Darren McQueen Jr., Nigel Hussey, Malik Ricketts and Stephon Brown beat the previous school record of 39.67 (set by McQueen, Hussey, Brown and Clement Campbell) with their 39.40 time in the preliminary round.
For the second consecutive meet, Alesia Rengle emerged victorious. After winning the high jump at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational last weekend, Rengle once again collected a victory, clearing a 1.76-meter height. A native of Oradea, Romania, Rengle had no problem with heights of 1.62, 1.67, 1.72 and 1.76-meters, clearing all on her first attempt. The junior jumper was unable to clear the 1.79-meter bar and concluded the competition on top. Eva Baldursdottir, who participated in the invitational section of the women's high jump, finished tied for ninth with a season's best jump of 1.73-meters.
Nigel Hussey ran a personal best 20.78 in the men's 200-meter dash. Hussey, who is the fourth fastest Panther to ever run the event, had a previous best time of 20.85. He remains fourth on the list with his new time. The native of Snellville, Georgia, is one of only five Panthers to record a sub-21 second time.
On the women's side, Je'Nyia Burton finished 19th in the 200-meter race with a time of 23.47. Caleia Johnson recorded a season's best of 24.01.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Logan Neely notched a 20th place finish with a time of 59.34. Junior Jana Bruses collected a personal best time of 1:00.34 for 27th overall. Devin Nugent earned 12th place with his time of 51.29. Freshman Emanuel Gayanilo has improved over the course of the three outdoor meets thus far.
Back in the field events, Daniel Amaya finished 14th in the hammer throw with a measurement of 59.69-meters. Samuell Guzman grabbed 16th in the javelin throw with a 56.60-meter launch.
Saturday Recap
Jana Bruses recorded her first sub-14 second time in the 100-meter hurdles, setting a new personal best as she crossed the finish line in 13.88.
Jaden Shelton won his 110-meter hurdles heat in 13.91 to advance to the finals. Later in the afternoon, Shelton improved his time, running a new personal best 13.78 to take eighth at Florida Relays. The time of 13.78 puts Shelton at sixth on the program top 10 list.
The 4x100 relay quartet of Darren McQueen Jr., Nigel Hussey, Thomas McDonough and Stephon Brown took fifth in the final, finishing in 41.15.
Uri Arnon recorded a 15.04-meter personal best jump in the triple jump. It was the first time Arnon leaped over 15-meters as he achieved the seventh best distance recorded by a Panther and finished 10th at the meet.
Norrah Lemongo came just shy of breaking the women's shot put program record with her 16.79-meter throw in the invitational section. The school record of 16.80-meters, set by Amanda Walker in 2005 still stands. Lemongo finished sixth at the meet. Her mark is a personal best as the Cameroon native remains second on the program top 10 list.
Caleia Johnson had a great showing in the women's 400-meter race, notching a personal best 53.16 in the event. Johnson bested her previous best time by nearly a second and it was first time Johnson has run under 54 seconds. The Kansas City, Missouri, native is now #6 on the program top 10 list.
