PITTSBURGH – Pitt (3-0-0) travels to face Dayton (1-0-1) Sunday, Aug. 24 for a 6 p.m. first kick from Baujan Field as the Panthers look to start the season 4-0 for the fifth time in the past six seasons. The Panthers, coming off a 1-0 win over Ohio Thursday at Ambrose Urbanic Field, have posted two shutouts and outscored the opposition 6-1 through three matches.
First-year head coach Ben Waldrum is looking to become the first Pitt coach to register wins in each of the first four games leading the program. Randy Waldrum led the Panthers to a 3-0-1 start in his first four games at the helm in 2018.
THE OPENING KICK
- Pitt has had five different goal scorers over the first three games with Katie Ellermeyer (2), Magaret Wilde, Magali Gagne, Lola Abraham, and Sofia Doheny each finding the back of the net.
- Ellermeyer, a freshman midfielder, recorded the game-winning goal in each of the first two matches of her college career to become the first Pitt freshman since Amanda West (2019) to record game-winning goals in each of the first two games of the season.
- Senior goalie Ellie Breech has recorded clean sheets in each of her two starts this season. The program's career leader in goalie wins (26), Breech has stopped all eight shots faced in 2025.
- Freshman Adi Bianchin has recorded an assist in both games played and shares the team lead in assists with veteran forward Margaret Wilde. Five of Pitt's six goals on the season have been assisted.
- The Panthers have recorded 10 or more wins in four of the past five seasons and have totaled 65 victories since the start of the 2020-21 season.
- Pitt returns 12 letterwinners from the 2024 squad that finished the year 9-6-3. The Panthers lost five of its top six goal scorers from last season but return a solid core of players led by goalie Ellie Breech, outside back Olivia Lee, forward Lucia Wells, forward Lola Abraham and midfielder Magali Gagne.
- The Panthers' roster entered the season with 13 career goals in the Pitt uniform. Katie Zailski has six career goals at Pitt but is currently sidelined due to injury, while Magali Gagne is the second leading returning goal scorer.
- Gagne had a goal and an assist in the Panthers' 3-1 win over Monmouth for her second career match at Pitt with three or more points. She missed Pitt's contest Thursday against Ohio.
- Junior Sofia Doheny scored her first career goal in the 3-1 win over Monmouth.
- Junior captain Olivia Lee has played the full 90 minutes in all three games this season and in 10 of the Panthers' past 13 matches dating back to last season.
