PITTSBURGH – Pitt improved to 4-0-0 on the season with a 3-0 road win over Dayton at Baujan Field as freshman Katie Ellermeyer posted the first multi-goal game of her career and the Panther defense secured its third shutout of the season.
Pitt broke through in the 27th minute following a chaotic sequence off its fourth corner of the game as Lola Abraham collected a clear attempt at the top of the box and skipped a shot into left side of the net. The two teams combined for six touches off the corner before Abraham notched her second goal the season.
The Panthers doubled the lead with 11:45 left in the half as Ellermeyer scored her third goal of the season off a penalty kick. Lucia Wells played a streaking Adi Bianchin into the box and a Dayton defender clipped her heal to send her tumbling to the ground for the foul.
Ellermeyer extended the lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute as she received a crossing pass from Wells at the top of the box and calmly scraped the shot across her body and into the lower left corner of the net.
Abby Reisz kept the clean sheet intact in the 78th minute with a punch over the cross bar off a Dayton free kick from 25-yards out. She added another save off the ensuing corner kick to extend her career-best saves total.
The two teams each finished with seven shots on goal but Pitt had the better run of play throughout the contest. The Panthers had a 7-5 advantage on corners with Dayton getting a pair of their corners in the final minute of play.
FAB FRESHMAN
Ellermeyer continued the electric start to her college career with a pair of goals to run her season total to four goals. The San Diego, Calif., native leads ACC freshmen in goals (4) and points (8).
She notched Pitt's first multi-goal game since Deborah Abiodun found the back of the night twice in an Oct. 13, 2024 win over Syracuse.
REISZ SETS CAREER SAVES MARK
Reisz recorded a career-best seven saves to finish off the first full game shutout of her career. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, native has started and won both of Pitt's road matches
ANOTHER NEW LINEUP
The Panthers started their fourth different lineup of the season with Mya Archibald, Adi Bianchin and Ellie Rowlands making their first starts at Pitt. Regular starter Magali Gagne missed her second consecutive game with an injury, while Sofia Doheny also missed the match after suffering an injury in the second half of Pitt's win over Ohio earlier in the week.
BEST START BY A FIRST YEAR COACH
Ben Waldrum became the first Pitt first-year head coach to lead the team to wins in each of its first four games of the season. The Panthers opened the season with a 4-0-0 record for the fifth time in the past six seasons.
UP NEXT
Pitt returns to Ambrose Urbanic Field to open a six-match homestand Thursday, Aug. 28 against Cal State Fullerton. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. as the Panthers look to extend their home shutout streak to three matches. Tickets are available HERE.
