Wolfpack Walk-Off Evens Series as Pitt Falls 3-2

RALEIGH, N.C. – Pitt jumped out to an early lead behind a pair of solo home runs, but NC State rallied late and secured a 3-2 walk-off victory Saturday evening to even the series.

The Panthers struck first in the second inning when Gracie Helton led off the frame with a solo home run to center field, giving Pitt a 1–0 advantage. Shelby Frazier followed Helton's lead, launching a first-pitch solo home run to center to begin the third inning, pushing Pitt's lead to 2-0.

Pitt starter Gwen Sparks kept the Wolfpack off the scoreboard through the first two innings despite issuing leadoff walks in both frames. Sparks worked 2.0 hitless innings, striking out one while facing eight batters.

Mia Kliethermes entered in relief in the third as NC State recorded its first hit of the game with a single up the middle. The Wolfpack evened the score in the fourth inning when Hannah Church and Morgen Talley hit back-to-back solo home runs to tie the game at 2-2.

Bekah Duck came on in relief with one out in the inning and struck out both batters she faced to end the threat.

Duck held the Wolfpack in check into the seventh inning, but NC State secured the win in the bottom of the frame when Lily Livingston delivered a walk-off double to left center, scoring the winning run.

Talley earned the win for the Wolfpack, tossing a complete game while allowing five hits and two runs with one walk and eight strikeouts. Duck was charged with the loss after allowing one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks over 3.1 innings of relief.

The Panthers and Wolfpack will meet in the rubber match Sunday at noon, with the game set to stream on ACC Network Extra.
