Pitt Hosts Penn State on Tuesday

PITTSBURGH – Pitt (28-21, 10-17 ACC) hosts in-state rival Penn State (15-32, 8-19 Big 10) for their final midweek contest of the season on Tuesday night at 6 PM.
In their most recent matchup, the Panthers dismantled the Nittany Lions, 15-1, at PNC Park last season. Pitt has outscored Penn State, 31-3, in their last three meetings.
Top of the Order
• With two more wins, Pitt will eclipse the 30-win mark for the first time under Mike Bell, and the first time since joining the ACC. The Panthers have won 29 games twice since joining the ACC (2018 & 2022).
• The Oakland Lumber Company is open for business and Pitt's offense is one of the best in the country. They lead the nation in base on balls (337), rank sixth in OBP (.437), eighth in SLG (.545) ninth in home runs per game (1.94), 11th in home runs (95) and 14th in scoring (8.6).
• The Panther offense set the program record for home runs in a single season with 95 this year. They have driven in 173 runs via the long ball, hitting seven grand slams and nineteen three-run home runs this year. Pitt's previous home run mark was 79 in 2022.
• SS Caden Dulin was named as a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award which is given annually to the nation's most outstanding shortstop. During ACC play, Dulin is hitting .395 with 47 hits, 24 RBI, 24 runs scored, seven home runs, seven doubles and 75 total bases.
• OF Lorenzo Carrier leads the ACC in walks (51) and OBP (.544), ranks second in SLG (.801), third in home runs (18), and fourth in RBI (62) batting average (.386) and total bases (133). He is closing in on single-season program records for home runs, walks and RBI.
• Carrier earned multiple midseason First Team All-America honors and was named to the Golden Spikes Award and Baseball America Player of the Year Midseason Watch Lists. He was recently named as one of the nine semifinalists for the Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy.
• Pitt leads the entire country in walks this year with 337. OF Lorenzo Carrier's 51 lead the ACC and rank seventh in the nation. Their 337 free passes set the program record for walks in a single season. For an individual, the program record for walks in a season is 57, set by Luke Cantwell in 2024.
