Women's Soccer Travels to Cornell for Sunday Matinee

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's soccer team is back on the road Sunday at Cornell after scoring a 1-0 win over Liberty Thursday at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Ellie Rowlands headed in her first collegiate goal off a high cross in from freshman Talyn Guthrie in the first half for what would be the game-winning goal.

The Panthers dominated the game, outshooting the Flames 18-6 over the full 90 and 11-1 in the first half.

BITS FROM THE 'BURGH

Pitt looks to add on to its three-game unbeaten streak at Cornell, going 2-0-1 in its last three games.
The Panthers have had four different goal scorers and eight different players record points in the opening five games. Three of the Panthers four goal scorers have recorded their first goals as a Panther this season.
Two of Pitt's non-conference opponents, Texas and Cornell, are teams the Panthers haven't played since their inaugural season in 1996.
Pitt has just three games left in the non-conference slate. After Sunday's game at Cornell, the Panthers travel to Ohio and then round out non-conference action at home against Dayton Sept. 6.
Pitt has cleaned up it play over the last few games. The Panthers committed 18 fouls in the season opener against Youngstown State and just four in the last game against Liberty.
The Panthers are holding opponents to under 10 shots per game. Pitt didn't allow a shot in the first half at LMU and allowed just one in the opening 45 against Liberty.

SCOUTING CORNELL

Cornell has started the year 2-1-0 with wins over St. Bonaventure and Lafayette. The Big Red dropped a game to Boston College last Sunday, 3-1.
The Big Red finished 2025 with a 5-7-4 mark and a 2-5 record in Ivy League play.
The last time the Panthers and the Big Red met was in Pitt's inaugural season in 1996. Cornell came out with a 1-0 victory.
