PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men’s soccer team (5-5-3, 0-4-1 ACC) dropped a 1-0 decision to Cleveland State (5-6-1, 1-3-1 Horizon) Tuesday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
“It was a very difficult loss,” head coach Joe Luxbacher said. “In the first half, we were on their end for 40 of the 45 minutes. We had many chances that we should’ve had goals and that comes back to haunt you. We had chances early and that has been the case almost every game. We have to find ways to score goals. We’re creating chances but didn’t finish. Dan [Lynd] only had two saves, so he wasn’t very busy.”
Seven different Panthers attempted shots in the game, totaling 12 shots. Pitt was unable to score any goals off those shots as the Vikings’ goalie Aleksandar Drobac made five saves.
The Panthers maintained possession through the majority of the match, however a shot from CSU’s Dan Koniarczyk in the 71st minute at the top of the box went right past senior goalkeeper Dan Lynd in goal, scoring the lone goal of the game.
The Panthers return to ACC action on Friday, Oct. 16, as the squad travels to Charlottesville, Va., to take on the reigning NCAA College Cup Champions, Virginia. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
