
Bugg Leads Pitt to 65-48 Win over Bearcats

A 23-Point Performance by Redshirt Senior Aysia Bugg Leads to a Panther Victory
PITTSBURGH – Redshirt senior Aysia Bugg used a career-high 23-point performance to lead the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team to a 65-48 victory over Cincinnati Friday night at the Petersen Events Center.
Pitt [2-2] now owns a 12-4 all-time series edge over the Bearcats [2-2], with the Panthers recording their second consecutive victory against Cincinnati.
Bugg led Pitt offensively with 23 points, followed by senior Cassidy Walsh with 14 points and senior Danielle Garven with 13 points. Sophomore Cara Judkins pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds in 25 minutes, while junior Jasmine Whitney dished out a team-high five assists.
For the Bearcats, sophomore Iimar'i Thomas led the team with 12 points, followed closely behind by junior Angel Rizor with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Panthers led Cincinnati in most major statistical categories, owning the advantage in field goals made (25-19), three-pointers (6-2), free throws (9-8), rebounds (48-32) and blocks (4-3).
Cincinnati jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead early in the game before Pitt used a 14-2 run in the final 5:57 of the quarter to take a 14-6 advantage after one. Garven paced the Panthers in the first quarter of play, scoring six points on a perfect 3-of-3 mark from the field.
Following a three-pointer by junior Alayna Gribble to start the second, the Bearcats used a 15-4 run to even the score at 21 apiece with 4:08 left in the half. From there, the teams would trade baskets, putting the score at 30-30 at the half. Bugg had the hot hand in quarter number two, scoring 11 of her 13 first-half points in the second to lead Pitt.
The Panthers and Bearcats went back-and-forth to start the third, putting the score at 40-37 in Pitt's favor with 5:59 left in the quarter. The Panthers then used an 8-0 run to head into the fourth with a 48-37 advantage over Cincinnati.
The Panthers controlled the game in the closing quarter, never letting their lead get below 10. Pitt would ultimately go on to pull out the 65-48 victory.
Up next, the Panthers will head to Washington, D.C., for their first road contest of the season as they take on Georgetown Monday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
